My Approach

An eating disorder can make you feel trapped in a world where food becomes your whole life.  You feel out of control and powerless to stop it. You resolve to do better tomorrow, only to find yourself going back to old behaviors, again and again. Your health is now on the line, and you need to get back on track -- fast.

If your child is the one with the eating disorder, you are terrified. You worry that he or she is focusing too much on food and that it’s become more important than friends or school. You try to help, but you find that everything you say or do is wrong. What works one day, may cause a fight next. Something has to change. You want to save your child before things get worse. You want to find a therapist your child will like, who will help the whole family to figure this thing out.

You might be wondering if recovery is real, and if it’s worth it. Part of you may want to stick with your eating disorder, feeling like it’s the safest way to live, but a stronger part of you knows better: you want to be productive at work or school. You don’t want to feel trapped. You want to be able to eat with friends in a restaurant like you used to. Maybe you just want to think about something else for awhile. Ultimately, maybe you’d even like to learn to eat intuitively and love your body.

All of this is possible. I can help.
